1-Day Cultural Tour in Huangling

Recommended for Visitors Interested in History and Traditional Architecture

Explore Huangling’s rich heritage through its well-preserved ancestral halls, academies, and iconic Huizhou-style architecture.

Cao Clan Ancestral Hall at Ancestral Hall Square
Originally built during the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty, this hall was reconstructed on its original foundations and now covers approximately 360 square meters. The building features a central-axis, hip-and-gable roof design with three courtyards and five bays, reflecting classic Huizhou architectural style.

Zhushan Academy
First established in the late Qianlong period (18th century), the academy has been rebuilt multiple times over the past 200 years. The current structure is a faithful restoration based on the memories of elderly villagers from the Republic of China era. It was originally founded by Cao Zhenyong, son of Cao Wenzhi, who funded its construction.

Zhuxu Hall
Built by Cao Yuangong, a tribute scholar appointed magistrate of Xingshan County in 1635 (Chongzhen 8th year), Zhuxu Hall is celebrated for its exquisitely carved wooden fa?ade facing the street. It is a prime example of Huizhou woodcarving artistry.

Common House (Zhongwu)
Also known as the “Hall House,” this building served as a branch ancestral hall. The "Imperial Edict" plaque above its gate signifies the imperial favor bestowed upon the people of Huangling—an enduring symbol of royal recognition and respect.

Shende Hall
This hall was the residence of Cao Zixue, father of Cao Mingyuan, who was honored by imperial officials for his exemplary filial piety and brotherly virtue.

Wugui Hall
Wugui Hall is regarded as the ancestral home of the Huangling people. It was originally owned by Cao Yonghu and his son Cao Xili, who lived during the Wanli to Chongzhen reigns of the Ming Dynasty.

Yixin Building
Originally built in 1908 (Guangxu 34th year) as a cultural station in Xucun Town, Yixin Hall was once the guesthouse of Xu Changzhi (also known as Xu Yunxin), a renowned tea merchant in southern China. The building was later relocated to Huangling, preserving its original charm.

Shuhe Hall
Shuhe Hall was the official residence of Cao Mingyuan, who passed the imperial examination in 1643 (Chongzhen 16th year) and later served as the magistrate of Linchuan County in Fuzhou Prefecture, known as the “hometown of talented scholars” in Jiangxi.
